Branding Is Your Secret Weapon: Don't Skimp in 2025

Your brand is not a logo. It is the promise people test every time your product loads slowly, answers badly, or looks like everyone else.

Branding gets treated like dessert — nice if the budget survives the engineering. That is how you end up with a fast product that nobody can remember, and a competitor who looks inevitable.

A logo is a handshake. The brand is the whole evening: first load, the sentence on the empty state, the tone of the error, the person who answers when the payment hangs. If those disagree, you do not have a brand. You have a costume.

The companies that turned commodities into memory did it with a coherent world, not a colour palette. Dollar Shave Club and Warby Parker are the usual citations because they made the unsexy feel like a point of view. The lesson is not "be funny." It is "be consistent enough that a customer can predict you." Consistency compounds. Inconsistency is a tax on trust.

The 23% figure gets waved around in decks until it means nothing. Treat it as a reminder, not a spell: brand-consistent companies tend to earn more because they waste less explaining themselves. Audit like an engineer. Where does the voice break? Where does the product apologise with a stock illustration? Where does support sound like a different company?

Storytelling still matters. Purpose still matters. Activism only matters if you will still fund it when it is inconvenient. In a feed full of generated sameness, the scarce thing is a point of view that survives contact with a support ticket.

On this continent the brand is often the only moat a smaller company has against a louder one. If your app looks like a template and your support sounds like a script, you will be compared on price and lose. If the experience feels like a person with a point of view, you get a second chance after a slow load.

Do not skim branding in 2025 because AI made assets cheap. Cheap assets made taste expensive. If you look like a template, you will be priced like one.
